Akamas Peninsula

• The Akamas Peninsula is to the south what the Karpas Peninsula is to the north: a refuge of wilderness and unspoilt countryside. In a sense the Akamas is even wilder, as beyond Polis there are no more roads, just a network of dirt tracks. The photo shows the wide bay of Polis and the town itself (which we found to be a rather sleepy place).

• The countryside offers many easy walks: it's rolling hills rather than “real” mountains. There are always views towards the sea, sometimes even to either side of the peninsula at the same time. Some of the beaches here are used by breeding turtles but we didn't see any as it was too late in the season.

• The westernmost part of the Akamas coastline.

• On to the Avgas Gorges.
