Cairo Istanbul 2005

One of the travel classics: travel overland from Cairo to Istanbul.

We were gone for four months and explored Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Turkey, spending around 4 weeks in each country.

Plenty of time to fill up with impressions and memories. And learn a lot about the history of this region.

The two of us in Wadi Rum, Jordan. The two of us in Wadi Rum, Jordan. We sent quite a few emails during the trip but we have no photos to show though, as we deliberately wanted to see how it feels to travel for such a long time and take not a single photo. On the one hand having photos is great, afterwards, but on the other hand the act of taking them (or even of carrying a camera) destroys some of the fun and atmosphere of travelling. Difficult question, this one.)

The desert of Wadi Rum, Jordan. The desert of Wadi Rum, Jordan. It felt great for Thomas who is the photograph in our team, but with hindsight, I wish we would have some visual memories of that trip... The photos on this page were taken by a German couple we met while touring the desert of Wadi Rum in Jordan and who sent us some pictures once back home.

But it is not all lost! We returned to the Middle East in 2006 and were again in Syria, Lebanon and Turkey (among others), so check our TISL 2006 pages for some photos of these countries... Furthermore, there are many pictures of Turkey in the pages dedicated to our Turkey 2015 trip.

As ever, there are also the Index and the Map pages for this section.
