United Kingdom

Quaint, peculiar, funny: the United Kingdom… our "Wahlheimat".

We actually like it here: the weather (and the food) are not quite as bad as the natives (and the French) make you believe.

Introduction

It all started in the summer of 1977 when Vero, aged fourteen, was sent to York to improve her English and stayed with a wonderful family for three weeks. Karen, one of the daughters became a dear friend and many holidays in York followed over the years. As time went by, Thomas got introduced and warmly welcomed, and while we were living in Germany, we managed to pay a visit to York or spend a few days in London every two to three years, we even spent two weeks hiking part of the South Coastal Path in Cornwall in 1996.

Then came our move to Britain in 1998 and we have been living in Hampshire ever since.

We love the UK very much, its people, its history and the way things are (or are not) done. Moving to the UK for good, we surprisingly found that everyday life was quite different from the one we knew from the continent and we needed the better part of three years before feeling really comfortable in our country of adoption.

We have a few blog entries and have one page dedicated to our passion for old British Post Boxes in the background section.
