Nepal 2016

And it's Nepal again!

We trekked the Manaslu and Annapurna circuits and paid a short visit to the Everest foothills to top it all...

Post 2015 earthquake, our first time during the monsoon season, we have a lot to share and reflect upon.

Side Trip to Tilicho Lake

(vero;2017-Feb-28)

The pictures speak for themselves, this side trip is highly scenic and impressive. A must!

Read our blog entry for more pictures and check our panorama page for views of the Grande Barrière and Tilicho lake.

Shortly after leaving the main trail and turning west to follow the Marsyangdi river, view up valley with Khangsar on a plateau, left in the picture.
We have gained height and are soon arriving in Shree Kharka. In the middle is the red roof of a monastery currently under construction. Group of porters having a break along the way. The same porters in a difficult passage. View down valley taken from the landslide area. The porters crossing the landslide area; they are carrying building material for the lodges at Tilicho base camp. Looking back on the final leg to base camp. In the morning, on the way to the lake, looking back in direction of base camp. The night rain has turned to snow at that altitude. Drifting clouds over Tilicho lake. A fine bunch of friends, the five young Israeli men whom we kept bumping into since Dharapani and whose company we enjoyed very much. Beautiful patterns on the ice blocks of the glacier feeding the lake. In the afternoon, on the way back to base camp, the clouds are lifting and reveal more of the valley. Blue sky as we continue to descend! View of the rock formations on the ridge, so characteristic for this region. The weather is really improving, we can now see the summits of Himal Chuli. The morning after: sunrise over the Grande Barrière. The triangular peak is Khangsar Kang. Behind it starts the ridge leading to Annapurna I (8091m), the “small” round summit in the sun. Clear views, we can even see Manaslu on the left! Right is Himal Chuli. Looking back on the Grande Barrière. Looking back on the trail which can be seen contouring the mountain across the river. From left to right: Chulu (6059m), Pisang Peak (6091m) and Manaslu (8163m). Yet another view of these incredible rock formations. Just stunning. More of the same: blue sky, white summits, Grande Barrière, rock formations… we just can't get enough of this landscape. On the way down before reaching Shree Kharka, looking back on the well engineered path. The ruined houses of Upper Khangsar. On the right, summit of Idam Phra seen from Upper Khangsar. Manang as seen shortly after Upper Khangsar.
