Butterflies of Blenheim Palace

(vero;2023-Jul-03)

Blenheim Palace is located a few miles west of the city of Oxford. It is home to the Dukes of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Click here to plan your visit: access, tickets booking, opening times, etc.

We had a walk through the extensive grounds and came upon the butterfly house in the walled garden which we enjoyed very much. You can check our blog entry with some impressions and background information about the palace and the Spencer Churchill family as well as two photo galleries dedicated to the palace (there is so much to see).

Malachite (Siproeta Stelenes), South America.
King Swallowtail (Papilio Heraclides Thoas), Americas. Owl Butterfly (Caligo Hübner), South America. Lysander Cattleheart (Parides Lysander), South America. Owl Butterfly (Caligo Hübner), South America. Great Mormon (Papilio Memnon), Asia. Emerald Swallowtail (Papilio Palinurus) from the Philippines. Red Lacewing (Cethosia Biblis), Asia. Gloriosa Lily. Owl Butterfly (Caligo Hübner), South America. Emerald Swallowtail (Papilio Palinurus) from the Philippines. Tree Nymph (Idea Leuconoe), South Asia. Inside the Butterfly House, the atmosphere was very humid. I had expected to see many butterflies fluttering around, but they were mostly static, sucking on the flowers and fruits, hanging from the ceiling net or resting on leaves. Board located at the entrance of the house. Unfortunately, it does not show all butterflies species we could see.
