David Hockney 25
(vero;2025-Oct-05)
I first came across David Hockney in 1999: there was an article in a French paper about an exhibition of his works in Centre Pompidou, Paris with a photo of his painting "Garrowby Hill". I went to the exhibition and loved it, I remember being particularly impressed by his collages.
I have been following him since then and was delighted to secure a ticket for the last day of his 2025 exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. I was not disappointed.
Following are two links to know more about the man and his work: the site of the David Hockney Foundation contains a useful chronology by year with some of his major works and impressions of that year and the David Hockney website contains press cuttings, a list of his past, current and planned exhibitions and an overview of his works by genre (very good).
On a different note, I enjoyed reading the articles dedicated to Hockney25 on this blog by Dr. Beverly Held and recommend it highly.
There is also a video below the photo gallery for an impression of the exhibition as well as a second page showing videos of the installations shown in the last room of the exhibition dedicated to stage sets created for the Metropolitan Opera House, New York in 1981. It was magical.
Following is a video taken in the gallery dedicated to Hockney's paintings of Yorkshire:
