France

La France… meilleur pays du monde (according to some).

Well. Let's face it: the French have it all. The highest mountains, the wildest coasts, amazing buildings, superb food, wines to die for… so what's not to like? (The frustrating strikes, perhaps?)

(vero;2022-Nov-21)

Click on this link to learn about those tapestries and see panoramas of the fourteen tapestries.

1st tapestry: detail of the Epiphany showing two of the three magi.
1st tapestry: detail of a scene of the Old Testament framing the Epiphany. 2nd tapestry: the Baptism of Jesus. 3rd tapestry: detail of the Temptation of Adam and Eve. It frames the Temptation of Jesus on the left. Note the head of the snake represented as a woman. 3rd tapestry: detail of the Temptation of Jesus. Note the delicate rendering of the trees and birds. 3rd tapestry: detail of the Temptation of Isau, who sold his birthright for a plate of lentils. It frames the Temptation of Jesus on the right. 3rd tapestry: detail of a scene of the Old Testament. It frames the Entry of Jesus in Jerusalem on the left and shows a victorious David with Goliath's head, still holding his sling and Goliath's sword. The story goes that David threw a rock with a sling at Goliath's head. The rock sank into the giant's forehead and he fell. David then picked up Goliath's sword and used it to kill Goliath and cut off his head. 4th tapestry: detail of Judas' betrayal of Jesus 4th tapestry: Judas seating at the Last Supper. 9th tapestry: Burial of Jesus. 10th tapestry: detail of Jesus visiting Maria Magdalena. Note the delicate rendering of the trees, flowers and birds. 11th tapestry: detail of doubting Thomas. 12th tapestry: detail of a scene of the Old Testament (my guess: the Judgement of Solomon) framing the Last Judgement. 12th tapestry: detail of the Last Judgement; Hell obviously. 7th tapestry: detail of the Crucifixion. 14th tapestry: detail of the Resurrection.
